๐๏ธ Why Zante? The Short Answer
Zakynthos โ known internationally as Zante โ is a 405 kmยฒ island in the Ionian Sea, sitting just off the west coast of Greece. It combines everything a perfect summer destination needs: world-class beaches, crystal-clear warm water, great food, rich history โ and one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes in all of Europe.
The island attracts over 1 million visitors every summer. A large proportion are young Italians who have turned Zante into their own summer capital โ creating a unique cultural atmosphere that blends Greek island charm with Italian energy and style.
โ๏ธ Getting to Zante
Zante International Airport (ZTH) is served by direct flights from most major Italian, Spanish, UK and European airports throughout the summer season. Flight times:
๐ก๏ธ Weather in Summer 2026
July and August in Zante offer near-perfect conditions: 30โ34ยฐC daily temperatures, virtually zero rainfall, and sea temperatures of 26โ28ยฐC. Evenings cool slightly to 22โ25ยฐC โ perfect for outdoor dining and beach clubs. The peak of summer (late July to mid-August) is the hottest and most lively period.
๐๏ธ Best Beaches in Zante
Accessible only by boat, this is arguably the most photographed beach in the world. Towering 200m white cliffs, a rusting shipwreck on bright white sand, and electric blue water. Accessible via day boat tours or โ best of all โ via the Italian evening boat party.
The main party beach. Shallow, warm water and fine golden sand stretching 9km. Home to Infinity Beach Club, El Paradiso, Karma and dozens of bars. The social heart of the island's summer season.
One of the main nesting sites for the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles. A magical snorkelling location visited on the Mamma Mia! boat excursion.
Quieter beaches on the south-east tip of the island. Crystal-clear calm water, perfect for snorkelling. A welcome break from the Laganas buzz.
๐ข Caretta Caretta Sea Turtles
Laganas Bay is the most important nesting site for the endangered Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta Caretta) in the Mediterranean. The turtles come ashore at night to lay eggs on Laganas and Gerakas beaches between June and August. There are strict rules about beach access after dark in nesting zones, but witnessing turtles in the water during the day is magical. The Mamma Mia! boat excursion visits turtle habitats as part of its itinerary.
